Foliar Designs by Marla Crowley
For me, creating art is a similar experience to meditation or dancing, walking in the woods or being at the river. The creation of art brings me inner peace.
We could say that a personal artistic journey is how creativity is explored to transform ideas, over time. The visual form will change or be altered as a result of the exploration of the ideas, curiosities, openness to learn and grow, subjects, mediums, philosophies, meditation practice, training, classes, and experiences in nature and life. One may pause along the way, to gather and grow and then continue on the journey. I have been blessed and am very grateful to have met many amazing people in my life who have inspired me along my curious journey. My path to Foliar Design began maybe 40 years ago when I was introduced to weaving and making clothes. I began with carding, spinning and dyeing of wool. I had moved to Santa Fe, NM, and in addition to pursuing spinning, dyeing and weaving, I was introduced to many other forms of creative expression. Recently, Foliar Design and “Eco Printing” came into my world. I love being in nature and gathering leaves and then working with natural dyes on fabrics of silk, wool and cotton. The results are magical! You never know exactly what the final result will be. Foliar Design is now a part of the rhythm of my life, whether I am gathering leaves for future dying projects, preparing natural fabrics for dyeing, or laying out the leaves in beautiful patterns and then placing the dye blankets onto the fabric to create unique and amazing patterns and colors. Please take a look at the beautiful results and see if one catches your spirit. |
